HTML is a markup language for creating electronic documents (HTML pages) that can be displayed by a web browser. In addition to the contents displayed by the browser HTML contains metainformation, e.g. about the document lanuage or its author. HTML is developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and the Web Hypertext Application Technology Working Group (WHATWG).
