API First: New Generation of Process Control and Modeling

DocBridge® Gear is a platform with which all processes of document creation, conversion, modification and output can be easily configured customer-specifically - independent of a specific (given) page format and based on raw data. Typical quality assurance processes (document check/comparison, validation, release workflows, etc.) can also be modelled.

The basic principle of DocBridge® Gear is the use of reusable worklets that stand for specific functionalities and sub-processes. These worklets can be very granular (small, manageable processes) or very large (multiple nested processes/consideration of various complex criteria). Nevertheless, changes in the worklets can easily be taken into account without the need for time-consuming reprogramming.

DocBridge® Gear is primarily aimed at companies that deal with Omnichannel communication and are looking for a solution for seamless integration of various business applications, applications that have sometimes been silo'd and thus ineffective.

Key benefits:

  • Support for batch and transaction processing
  • Integration of any number of specialist applications
  • Connection of digital and analog communication channels

Architecture and Components

DocBridge® Gear consists of three components:

  • Process Engine:
As a core system, the Process Engine processes processes that consist of individual sub-steps, the so-called worklets.
  • Process Monitor:
The monitor is used to manage, monitor and control the processes, which can be configured at will via a graphical user interface.
  • Worklet Editor:
This tool serves as a graphical interface for the administration and configuration of processes and individual worklets.

Different worklet types are available:

  • Native Worklets allow access to all core functions contained in the DocBridge® Mill Toolkit.
  • Compound worklets allow entire sub-processes to be saved as worklets and thus made reusable without additional effort - both in complex overall processes and within the framework of web services.
  • With scripting worklets, project-specific functions of Javascript or type script bindings can be integrated. The entire universe of NPM packages is available.
Functionality

What can DocBridge® Gear do?

  • Configuration
of simple and complex workflows of customer communication based on data and documents.
  • Connection of input channels
and business applications that deliver raw data.
  • Digital and analog output channels
are connected once and are then available to all processes and applications.
  • Permanent monitoring
    and professional error handling.

Usability and Security

DocBridge® Gear can be easily integrated into DocBridge® Central – the common user interface with central user management and common resource management available for more and more Compart products. This offers important advantages to both the business user and the system administrator.

Common User Interface

Central user interface with common "look and feel" as well as convenient single sign-on login with the option to connect to directory services (Active Directory, LDAP).

A&A / Central User Administration

Granular management of user roles and access rights for selected DocBridge® product functions (administrators); an easy-to-use A&A tool (Authentication & Authorization) to protect against misuse and to improve user experience.

Common Resource Management

Individual and team directories for storing resources (templates, documents, images, process definitions), end-to-end versioning, release and monitoring of resources including dependencies, and a staging concept for multiple environments.

Ideal for Cloud Environments

Web-based environment for easy access to DocBridge® products. The modular structure (microservices) enables needs-based extensions of the functional scope - also as containers in cloud environments incl. orchestration.

DocBridge® Gear in Practice

1 Connection of Modern Cloud Applications and Digital Output Channels
1 Connection of Modern Cloud Applications and Digital Output Channels
Aim

A company wants to improve customer service by connecting the latest digital communication channels such as messenger services (WhatsApp, SMS, etc.), web portals and e-mail. These communication channels must be able to be connected to several existing business applications, e.g. CRM or ERP, some of which are sourced from the cloud.

Solution

Connection of business applications:

DocBridge® Gear provides various interfaces, such as REST Services, which can be used to exchange raw data in various formats (XML, JSON, CSV, etc.) as well as data already prepared for printing (PDF, AFP, etc.). This makes it possible to integrate both cloud applications and legacy applications. The connection only has to be made once with DocBridge® Gear and not individually for each combination of application and output channels. In addition, information returned from the channels can also be returned to the applications.

Connection of the communication channels:

Output channels can be connected either directly or via third-party services such as Twilio. DocBridge® Gear also provides various interfaces such as REST for this purpose. This gives companies the choice, for example, of sending their e-mails directly via their own SMTP server or using a cloud service such as Amazon Simple E-Mail Service (SES). Of course, it is also possible to connect archives, messenger services and fax machines.

Use
  • Flexibility and overview: DocBridge® Gear manages the relationships between business applications and digital and analog input and output channels in one central location.
  • Future-proof: Thanks to innovative interface concepts such as REST, applications are also prepared for the communication channels of the future, while existing applications are also served by Compart's comprehensive competence in print data streams.
  • Agility and cost reduction: The effort required to connect additional input/output channels or new applications is significantly reduced and the systems can be put into productive operation more quickly.
